The most important thing to remember is that you’re never too old to learn how to surf! Surfing is there to make of it what you will. Not everyone wants to be a pro surfer, just enjoying the art of riding waves and enjoying the swells that Mother Nature has blessed this earth with is enough for most people. It really is an incredible feeling living such a healthy lifestyle which can give you so much in the way of enjoyment. To quote a very famous Surf Company “Only a Surfer Knows the Felling”
For those who have aspirations of becoming the next Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning or Bruce Irons age will play a big factor in how good you will become and how long it will take you to get to that level, Also, how far you want to take it in life, but one thing is for sure you will never regret the decision to learn how to surf no matter what you want from it.
If you are under 12 you are in the glory days, the world is your oyster and you have the chance to go as far as you possibly can or want in the world of surfing. I think it is important to say that first and foremost you should learn to surf because its probably the funnest thing you are ever likely to do in your life, you will meet great people, see unbelievable locations, it will give you emotions and take you places you have never dreamed of.
If you are starting in your teens then you are likely to become a very good surfer, there have been guys on the World Championship Tour (WCT) who didn’t start surfing until they were 14 or 15. But if you are to make it in surfing the most important thing is not your age but the attitude and work that you put into it. Generally the guys who become great surfers are the ones who start at a young age and are full of enthusiasm and more importantly Love what they do. When you are young you don’t have any commitments like a House, Wife, Kids or a Job... you can literally surf all day (during the summer holidays that is), you shouldn’t skive off school now kids.
If you are starting out and your not a teenager but your in your twenties, thirties, forties or even your fifties you can still pick up surfing, become good and have a great life experiencing things only a surfer does.
